What’s your insider tipp when it comes to Hamburg’s christmas markets?
I actually have two favourites that are on my list every year, and without going to each at least once, I’m not ready for christmas eve. One of them is Santa Pauli, which is a little different to your usual seasonal gathering… I especially like the “Winterdeck”, it has a really cozy living-room vibe that just makes you feel at home. I also enjoy going to the market on Fleetinsel, directly next to the Steigenberger Hotel. It’s not that touristy and the old sailing vessels give a real authentic Hamburg flair.

What’s your insider tipp when it comes to Hamburg’s christmas markets?
Wandsbeker Winterzauber: a small market with hot punch/mulled wine and lots of tasty treats. It’s not that frequented by tourists and you will find mostly locals at this market, which makes the athmosphere much cozier than at the crowded markets in the center. This market starts on November 11th (through January 6th) and it can be reached super easy taking the bus 23 from Dakarweg (2mins Walking from my4walls). No Bus change required, it’s a 25 min ride.
Another market I really like is the Weihnachtsmarkt Schmuggelstieg , it is very small and only opens on the Weekend of December 7 – 9 (from 11am to 11pm). This is the only market I know where you can experience an open bonfire and carolling. It’s a very traditional, old market that has been around for ages, so don’t be surprised if you get to meet witches and buskers. From my4walls, walk 10 min (or take a bus from Dakarweg) to the subway Station “Alsterdorf”, take the U1 and get off at “Ochsenzoll”.

What’s your insider tipp when it comes to Hamburg’s christmas markets?
I really like the main christmas market at Jungfernstieg. It’s one of the biggest in the city and there is just so much to see and do. Also, my 8-year old son loves the rides and mary-go-’rounds they offer. It is a christmas market for families and there is something to do for everyone. From my4walls, it is very easy to reach: simply take the S1 from “Rübenkamp” (8min walking) and get off at the “Jungfernstieg” station. It’s a 20min train-ride, no change required.
